Eligibility Requirements


In order to be eligible for the Indiana LIHEAP program, you need to meet a set of eligibility requirements. These requirements are mainly based on the income and residence of the applicants and are highlighted below:

  • Applicants to the Indiana LIHEAP program need to have a gross monthly income that is equal to or less than the maximum eligible income as provided for in the Indiana LIHEAP program available on this link: www.in.gov (Indiana LIHEAP Program income guidelines)

  • Applicants currently receiving SNAP, TANF, and SSI are automatically eligible for the Indiana LIHEAP program.

  • To be eligible for the Indiana LIHEAP program, you must be a resident of the state of Indiana and a US national or a registered legal alien.

Applicants for the Indiana LIHEAP program can qualify for emergency benefits if:

  • Their heating system or thermostat are either shutoff or are scheduled to be shut off

  • Their electric or natural gas heat is shut off or scheduled to be shut off

  • They are out of fuel, have less than a quarter tank of fuel oil or kerosene or have less than 10 day supply of deliverable heat sources such as wood, wood pellets or corn.
