Eligibility Requirements

In order to qualify for the Mississippi Food Stamps (SNAP), you need to meet a specified set of eligibility requirements. These eligibility requirements revolve around the income, resources, residence and employment status of the applicant and are highlighted below:

Resources Eligibility Requirements

Applicants for the Mississippi Food Stamps (SNAP) program should have less than $2000 worth of countable resources and $3250 if at least one of the members in the household is aged 60 and older. It should however be noted that resources such as homes and vehicles currently being used to earn an income are not considered as "countable".

Income Eligibility Requirements

It should however be noted that households that consists of members currently receiving TANF, SSI or any other form of income assistance , are not subject to the income tests. On the other hand a household with an elderly or disabled person is only subject to the net income test and not the gross income as specified on the income eligibility table.

Employment Eligibility Requirements

In order to qualify for the Mississippi Food Stamps (SNAP) program, all able-bodied individuals between the ages of 16 and 60 must register for work, be available and willing to accept employment and participate in an employment training program specified by their local Mississippi Food Stamps (SNAP) office.

Residence eligibility Requirements

All applicants to the Mississippi Food Stamps (SNAP) program must be US nationals or legal aliens who have resided in the state of Mississippi for a period of more than five years.
