Nevada Unemployment Application Information
Nevada Unemployment Insurance (UI) gives financial assistance to certain unemployed workers in the state of Nevada. The program only provides temporary assistance and only to those unemployed workers who have lost their employment not due to a fault of their own. The temporary assistance continues only until the time unemployed worker finds a job or is asked to re-join previous job.
Through Unemployment Insurance benefits, workers can meet their financial requirements during the period of unemployment. However, the benefits are only provided to workers who meet the UI eligibility requirements.
In order to qualify for filing a claim under UI, unemployed workers must have worked in state of Nevada during last 12 to 18 months. During the period of such employment, workers should have received wages according to the guidelines provided by the UI program. The workers will also have to meet other eligibility criteria such as being available for work and physically able to work at the time of making such claim.
In case either of the parties (employer and employee) disagrees with determination, they have the right to ask for hearing by impartial referee. The referee will make a decision after hearing both the parties and doing its own fact-collection. Again, if any of the parties disagree with the decision, it has a right to request a review by Employment Security Board of Review. The board can refuse to review in case referee confirmed determination instead of overwriting it.
If an unemployed worker disagrees with eligibility determination, he/she can file an appeal to court instead of asking for impartial referee. Usually, the maximum period allowed for appeal is 30 days, unless otherwise mentioned in the determination.
To file your claim for UI benefits, you can either fill an online application at Employment Security Division website or simply call the Division and file the claim on phone. Employment Security Division will guide you about the phone process before initiating the claim when you call.
In order to apply for Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits, one has to meet the following basic requirements.
- You should have worked in the state of Nevada i.e. received your wages in the state during past 12 to 18 months.
- Your unemployment should not be due your fault.
- You should have earned enough income to meet program wages guidelines for the base period.
- You should be available to work at the time of making the claim and during the time you receive the benefits.
- You should be able to work at the time of making the claim and afterwards as long as you receive the benefits through UI program. If your personal circumstances prevent you from accepting work, you will not be able to receive UI benefits. For instance, inadequate child care or lack of adequate transportation may prove out to be the reasons stopping you from accepting the work.
- When offered suitable work, you must accept it. Suitable work means work that you usually perform with prevailing wages. If you have been employed for a long time before being unemployed, you may not be a good candidate for UI benefits if you are refusing low-paying work in order to find a job with wages similar to your last wages received.
- If your working hours are reduced, you may qualify for UI benefits in most cases. Your wages after reduced working hours will play an important part to determine your eligibility in this case.
If the reason of unemployment passes the test of good cause or a worker is fired on grounds of misconduct, unemployed workers will not be able to apply for UI benefits. Similarly if workers fired on any of these reasons by previous employer and current employment lasting less than four months, they may not be eligible for UI benefits.

In order to file your online application successfully, you will need to answer all the questions in the application. Once files, it may take up to 30 minutes to file the claim.
