Food Stamps (SNAP)

The New york Food Stamp program which is also known as "the Supplemented Assistance Program" is an initiative by the state of new york and the US federal government to provide food assistance to low income earning individuals in the state of New York. This program realizes the vital role food plays in fueling the economy of the state and the country in general.

This programs aims to help low income families in New York to supplement the costs of their diet with nutritious and healthy food. Most of the food stamps provided by the New York food stamp programs are geared towards helping the recipients to make healthy choices, by purchasing vegetables, fruits and other foods that are considered nutrient rich.


LIHEAP

The New York Low-Income Energy Assistance Program commonly referred to as the New York LI-HEAP program, is an initiative that is funded by the US federal government and provides benefits to its members aimed at subsidizing their annual energy costs. The program also provides benefits during energy emergencies, and offers to repair broken heating equipment, and replace any inoperable heating equipment.


Medicaid

New York Medicaid provides comprehensive medical insurance for residents of New York. The program provides various medical and health services to enrollees. The individuals and families will require proof of their income and resources since the program only enrolls low income individuals and families.


SCHIP

New York Child Health Plus provides health insurance for children. Your child may be eligible for Child Health Plus if your income is low and you meet other qualification criteria for the program. The program is available to residents of state of New York and over a dozen providers are working in the state to provide health services through Child Health Plus.


SSDI

New Yorkers who meet certain eligibility criteria can apply for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits. These benefits provide financial support to those who can’t work because of a disability.


TANF

This New York’s Family Assistance Program offers up to 60 months of cash assistance. It's for low-income families with minor children, or pregnant women. Health care through Medicaid and support for child care, transportation, and job training are included.


TEFAP

In New York, the USDA-backed TEFAP provides foods like brown rice, canned fish, and fresh produce. Local entities, including community pantries, distribute these essential items to low-income families and individuals.


Unemployment

Unemployment Insurance (UI) in New York provides temporary income for unemployed workers who are actively looking for new employment. These benefits are available for eligible workers who have lost employment through no fault of their own and live in the state of New York. You can apply for unemployment benefits online. Remember, you must be willing to accept new work when you find it and you must be able to work to apply for these benefits. The Department of Labor holds final decision as to whether you qualify for benefits or not. The benefits you receive through UI are not deducted from your regular paycheck.


Veterans Disability

New York offers Veterans Disability Benefits to veterans who sustained injuries or acquired a medical condition during their active military duty. New York Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) assists low-income families and individuals with numerous energy efficient services. These services will help eligible households to reduce their heating and cooling costs.


WIC

The New York Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children, commonly referred to as the "New York WIC" is a special supplemental food program, targeting low-income women, infants and children. Some of the benefits of this program include: free monthly supplemental food supply, free nutrition education, free healthcare referrals and other social services.
