Food Stamps Application Instructions


You can apply for the Nebraska Food Assistance (SNAP) - Food Stamps program, by either:

  • Filling out and submitting an Online Application.
  • Filling out and submitting a Paper Application.

Online Application

The Nebraska Food Assistance (SNAP) - Food Stamps provides an online application portal through which applicants can submit an application. This method is easy to use and convenient because one can fill the form at any time of the day from the convenience of his or her home. Click this link to begin your application.

Choose your language and proceed to fill in the details as requested in the online application form. After filing all the required information, you should submit the online form. Upon submission of the online form, you will be invited for an interview with a representative from your local Nebraska Food Assistance (SNAP) - Food Stamps office. A list of local offices is available by clicking here. The representative will verify you documents and ask you questions aimed at establishing your eligibility to the program. Upon successful completion of your application you will start receiving the benefits of the program.

You should then fill the form and proceed to submit it at your local field office, click here to find your local field office. You will receive an invitation for an interview with a program representative who will verify your documents and ask you several questions that will help asses your eligibility to the program.

Upon successful processing of your application you will receive an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card through which you will be able to conveniently access the benefits of the Nebraska Food Assistance (SNAP) - Food Stamps program.


Eligibility Requirements

In order to qualify for the local Nebraska Food Assistance (SNAP) - Food Stamps program , you need to meet a specified set of eligibility requirements. These requirements are mainly pegged on:

  • The resources owned by the household
  • Household income
  • Employment requirements
  • Nature of residence

Resource-based eligibility Requirements

In order to be eligible for the local Nebraska Food Assistance (SNAP) - Food Stamps program, households are required to have a maximum of $2000 worth of countable assets and those households with at least one Peron who is aged 6o and above are required to have a maximum of $3250 worth of countable resources. In determining resource eligibility "countable assets" is used to refer to assets such as money in the bank and excludes the home, and such items as vehicles which are being used to generate an income for the household.

Income Eligibility Requirements

In order to qualify for the Nebraska Food Assistance (SNAP) - Food Stamps program, you need to meet a set of income eligibility requirements. These requirements are based on the gross income and do not apply to households with members who are receiving benefits from TANF, SSI and other general assistance programs. In the case of disabled individuals income eligibility calculations are based on the net and not the gross income.

Employment Eligibility Requirements

In order to be eligible for the Nebraska Food Assistance (SNAP) - Food Stamps program, applicants need to meet the specified employment requirements. These requirements are that able-bodied individuals between the ages of 16 and 60 should register for work, be ready and willing to accept employment and should participate in an employment training program specified by his or her local office.

Residential Eligibility Requirements

In order to be eligible for the Nebraska Food Assistance (SNAP) - Food Stamps program you need to be a US citizen or a legal alien who has resided in the state of Nebraska for more than five years.
