Many households in Florida find it difficult to pay for their utility bills. Florida Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps such households by paying their energy costs. The program pays directly to energy provider but also provides cash assistance to households that need money for furnace repairing or require crisis assistance during the winter.
Florida LIHEAP benefits are available to eligible households as one-time payment made directly to energy provider. Households can apply for assistance three times during one calendar year but can't receive the aid every month. Households receiving aid once may not receive it again if the relevant country doesn't have enough funds. Similarly, households with improved income after receiving payment once may not be eligible to receive it again. The program only pays for energy costs and doesn't cover sewerage, telephone, or other utilities. Similarly, the program will only pay for gas if it is primary source of heating during winter. In case a household is not using gas or propane as primary fuel for heating, Florida LIHEAP will not provide assistance to pay gas bill. The households qualifying for the benefits will receive benefits through their local agency.
Crisis Assistance is available through Florida LIHEAP. Applicants having a medical emergency, disconnection, or some other kind of emergency will receive additional payments through Florida LIHEAP crisis assistance.
Florida LIHEAP will provide assistance through your local community action agency. To apply for benefits, you will have to contact local agency office and provide detailed documentation at the time of making an application.
