Iowa WAP Application Information

The Iowa WAP is a federal grant program that aims to boost the energy efficiency in the home of low-income families in the state of Iowa. Some of the energy efficiency measures that are implemented in the homes of Iowa WAP beneficiaries include:

  • Installation of high density walls

  • Insulation of the attic

  • Replacement of broken windows

  • Installation and replacement of broken doors

The implementation of energy efficiency measures by the Iowa WAP are based on computerized energy audits that help to determine the cost effectiveness of each measure. This helps to quantify the reduction in energy costs and thus provides a suitable yardstick for measuring the programs deliverables.

Along with the energy efficiency measures the Iowa WAP also helps to implement safety measures in the homes of low-income households in the state. The main health and safety measure implemented by the Iowa WAP is a routine safety check on all combustible appliances in the home.

In order to qualify for the Iowa WAP program applicants need to meet a set of eligibility requirements. These eligibility requirements are based on the income, area of residence and the applicant’s participation in other social service programs.
