Kansas WIC Application Information

Kansas WIC serves as the first line of defense against malnutrition for women, children and infants living in Kansas. Kansas WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) program provides nutritional food and education to the qualified residents to ensure that those at nutrition risk can afford to consume healthy food and attain healthy growth. The program is available for all pregnant, breastfeeding and postpartum women, infants up to age of 1, and children under the age of 5, as long as they are determined to be on health risk by a qualified health professional.

Kansas WIC program provides nutritional education in addition to nutritional food assistance. The program supports breastfeeding women and provides them number of additional services such as healthy food and education. The program also provides similar benefits to pregnant and postpartum women. Infants up to their first birthday and children up to their fifth birthday also receive number of benefits through the program including supply of nutritional food, milk and support for healthy eating.

Once an individual is accepted in Kansas WIC program, he or she will receive checks that can be used to buy food at approved stores. There are over 300 approved stores throughout the state. Beneficiaries are only allowed to buy WIC approved foods using the checks they receive. Kansas WIC allows to buy iron-fortified milk, soymilk, bread, regular milk, whole grain, eggs, cereals, peanut butter, fruits and vegetables.
