Michigan WAP Application Information

Michigan Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) offer free weatherization services to low-income households in Michigan. The program helps such households to reduce their energy consumption by making their home energy efficient. The program ultimately helps these households to reduce fuel consumption through weatherization services.

Michigan WAP provides number of weatherization services to help eligible households reduce their fuel dependency. These services include weather stripping, caulking, insulation, as well as replacement of lights with energy efficient lights. The insulation services can be used for attic, walls, and ceiling to ensure that outside weather has minimal effect on the inside temperature.

Michigan WAP benefits are available for homeowners as well as renters. However, renters will required to obtain consent from their landlord to meet the additional requirements to receive these benefits.

To receive Michigan WAP benefits, your need to be responsible for paying energy costs for the household. Since the program addresses the most vulnerable households in the state, only income eligible households will receive these benefits. These one-time benefits are provided as long as funds are available.

  • Your household income should be at or below 200% of Federal Poverty Line (FPL)

Households receiving SSI or Aid to Families with Dependent Children don’t have to meet income guidelines. They will automatically qualify for the program.
