Utah Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) brings numerous weatherization services to residents of Utah. These services are available free of charge for income eligible households. WAP services aim to improve home energy efficiency by making certain weatherization measures suited to the household. As a result, the household will enjoy reduction in energy costs for lifetime.
The program is available to all income-eligible households in the state of Utah. The program gives priority to households with children. Households with medically needed, disabled, or aged members will also receive priority. Renters will need written permission from landlord before they can qualify for WAP services. In most cases, landlords will need to contribute to total cost of weatherization measures I case of renters living there. Households participating in WAP will usually save up to 33% in energy costs. Since most weatherization measures last a lifetime, homes will save greatly on energy bills for next 30-40 years.
Utah WAP provides different weatherization services after performing an energy audit. The energy audit is conducted by qualified contractors. The final report of energy audit will indicate different weatherization services to be provided to building in order to improve its energy efficiency. These services may include air sealing to stop air leakage, insulation of walls and attic to prevent heat conduction, and furnace repairing and replacement for improving its efficiency. Households may also qualify to receive refrigerator replacement. These services will improve the energy efficiency to reduce energy cost for the household.
Utah WAP is available only for low-income households. Households will need to meet income qualifications to receive these services. Since these benefits are made available to help the most vulnerable households in the state, priority will be given to households with high energy costs and low income.
To receive WAP services in Utah, you will need to fill out an application and hand it over your local WAP agency. You can also send your completed application to the office by mail or fax. Make sure that you have provided all the necessary documents along with your application.
