West Virginia WAP Application Information

The West Virginia Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) is a federally funded program that helps low-income households in the state to reduce the costs incurred due to energy related utilities. The program does this by implementing an array of energy efficiency measures in the homes of qualifying households.

Some of the energy efficiency measures implemented by the West Virginia Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) include:

  • Insulation of walls, floors and attics

  • Installation and replacement of broken doors and windows

  • Repairing malfunctioned home heating systems

  • Maintenance of air supply and conditioning systems

In addition to these energy measures, the program also implements health and safety measures to ensure that individuals live in a safe and sound environment.

This program is funded by US Department of Energy (DOE), and is managed by the West Virginia Office of Economic Opportunity (OEO), at the state level. The program provides its services through a network of community action agencies spread across the state of West Virginia.

In order to qualify for the program, applicants need to meet a set of eligibility requirements. These eligibility requirements are based on the applicant’s income, area of residence and participatory status in other social service programs such as LIHEAP, TANF, SSI and AID for families with children. The West Virginia Weatherization Assistance Program gives special priority to households with kids, the elderly and the disabled.

If you meet these eligibility requirements, then you should go ahead and apply for participation in the program. Applying for participation in the West Virginia Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP), is a fairly easy process, all one needs to do is to contact his or her nearest local community action agency in order to meet with a program representative, who will guide them through the application process.

Upon successful application to the West Virginia Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP), you will start receiving weatherization services. It should however be noted that the West Virginia Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) only provides weatherization related services and not direct monetary benefits.
